-Unit 4-

Series of four

I got the idea for my series of four from Pinterest, like I do with most of my pieces. I'm very upset that one of my pieces was broken or magically vanished when it was on the shelf to go in the kiln. I wanted to make four little dishes for my hope chest/future house, and I thought that the fruit theme would be great to match my pomegranate bowls I got thrifting. I made the dishes out of a slump mold from the little white bowls by the sink. I then painted on the fruit designs and then lost one of them which was so sad.

Lidded Box

I had absolutely so much fun with my lidded box. I made it all out of a slab and like cut the pieces of the box. I then took the end of a screwdriver type of tool and made the indents for the sides of the die. i scrapped out all the excess clay and then placed the sides of the box together to make the shape. I added four coils to the top of the box and smoothed them out a bit to make the fitted lid. I then dried it so much and started to put on the underglaze. I would only want to go back so I could add some slip or super wet clay to the corners of the box so it didnt crack when firing.

Handles on a Piece

So I started with a slab, and then just made the base of my mug by making it a cylinder with a bottom. Then I made this swoopy handle and got the fabulous idea to make a cat mug because I have had so many cats. I put my favorite cat where the tail was and then started to paint him orange. I then painted all 8 cats I've had in my life on the other side of the mug. I only wish I spent more time working on those cats because they could have turned out so much better than they look right now.

Monster

My monster was actually such a fun project, and I was really excited to bring this kids piece of art to life. I made the body out of a pinch pot, which didn't turn out as smooth as I wanted, but thank god it was a lot smoother than my first pinch pot. I had some trouble placing the antennas and the ears, so I took some artistic freedom and didn't put them on the sculpture. To make the arms more stable I stuck them to the sides of the body so they wouldn't fall off. When underglazing the piece I added a cute little bow to the back because I thought this monster would look so fabulous with one. I honestly thought it turned out pretty amazing, and I'm super proud of this piece

I have always loved Monet, so I knew from the beginning that I was going to want to use one of his pieces for my project. I already used the Starry Night for my bowl, so I decided to pick one of my other favorites. I had an amazing idea for the water, so I took some extremely wet clay and just used my fingers to form the waves below the church. Making the buildings was actually not fun at all because I didn't know how I would form them. I ended up using a slab to just make some little hills if you will for the smaller buildings, and then made a large cylinder for the church. I hate this piece though, probably because it didn't turn out as good as I had hoped. And then Kaitlyn made me take a silly picture for my website.
