-Unit 3-
Sgraffito
My sgraffito was so fun to make, and I can't wait to give this little tile to my grandma for her prayer table. I didn't really have any inspiration for this one, I just wanted it to be religious. I just took a rolling pin to my clay and then dried it so I could draw out my plan for the carving. I wanted to make her something really nice, so I put the birth dates of all her grandkids on the tile. The only thing I would do differently is make a slab for the tile, and not mess up on my little cousins birth year, she was born in 2014 instead of 2016.
Coil Pot (SCRAPPED)
The coil pot was probably the worst experience I have had in this class. I don't know what I did wrong, but I did everything wrong. I know that I needed to keep it wet and I think that is what lead me to my downfall. This pot was just so difficult to make. My clay was never wet enough, and it was just also so challenging. I want to go back and make it again because coil pots look really cool, and I want to be able to do it right.
Slump Mold
The slump mold was probably the best idea I've had in this class. I started out with a slab, and then I pressed it into the glass plate with all the fruit on it. I wanted to go for this super cool vintage vibe, so I got a light yellow for my base color, and then I started on all the fruit and plants. I tried to do lots of shading on the garlic and grapes, but gave up on the apple and pear. I went into the leaves blind because the mold didn't really work that well and they didn't show up. But then the plate broke, and I almost lost it. It's still greenware and I'm going to fix it after Thanksgiving break.
Slab Structure w/ Darts
The structure with darts wasn't bad, it just wasn't fun to make. I also just wasn't that good at making the darted part of it. I had a good shape going at first, and then I set it down too hard when it was leather hard and I kind of squashed the bottom. It doesn't look bad, it was just a super boring piece to make. It is safely in the reject pile of pieces I give to Caleb when I don't like them. The only thing I would do different is just take more time with it, and probably talk to Ayla about her technique because she had some really good mugs.
